Wie viele andere meines Jahrgangs bin ich natürlich auch mit Winnetou groß geworden und habe für ihn geschwärmt. Also wuchs ich in dem bestärkten Bewusstsein auf, dass alle Indianer gut sind. Irgendwann fing ich an und besorgte mir informative Fachliteratur über die Ureinwohner der U.S.A. und Kanada. Für mich sind die Native Americans seit Jahren vor allem immer wieder eins: FASZINIEREND!
Mein Interesse war mal mehr und mal weniger ausgeprägt, aber wann immer sich die Möglichkeit ergab etwas Neues zu lernen, habe ich es regelrecht verschlungen. Mein letzter Schub war vor ungefähr 10 Jahren, ausgelöst durch den Film „Der letzte Mohikaner“ mit Eric Schweig als Uncas ; es folgte schwere Literatur über eine junge Frau im Pine Ridge Reservat in Süd-Dakota, basierend auf einer wahren Geschichte mit vielen Bildern aus dem Reservat und den Menschen die dort „leben“.
Ich habe meine Leidenschaft für die Native People in Nordamerika natürlich in all den Jahren nicht verloren, aber es gab für mich im Moment mal keinen Anlass mein Wissen erneut zu vertiefen. Die Suche nach einem Traumfänger war dann der Grund für mein wieder gewonnenes Interesse an der indianischen Kultur. Nun kann man sich ja vorstellen, dass ich als alter Indianer-Fan nicht einfach irgendeinen in Asien hergestellten Traumfänger kaufe, sondern mich natürlich bemühe einen original indianischen Traumfänger zu bekommen! Und schon befand ich mich auf der Reise durch die verwirrenden Tiefen des Internets und ritt durch die Prärie! Es gibt ja wahnsinnig viele gute Indianerseiten – leider viele in Englisch und nur wenige in Deutsch. Um es kurz zu machen: Meinen Traumfänger habe ich dann doch in Deutschland gekauft, aber es wurde mir versichert, dass er aus South-Dakota stammen würde.
In Gesprächen mit Kindern und Jugendlichen hörte ich immer wieder heraus, das es ihrer Meinung nach doch gar keine Indianer mehr geben würde! Und da war sie wieder, die kindliche Logik: Es werden doch immer alle Indianer in den Filmen umgebracht, also wo bitte soll es noch Indianer geben ? Jetzt hieß es geduldig dem Kinde erklären, wie das mit den Indianern denn nun wirklich ist. Gar nicht so einfach... Ich erfuhr, dass auch die Erwachsenen nicht alle so genau darüber Bescheid wissen, dass es inmitten der reichsten und einer der größten Nation dieser Erde Gebiete gibt, in denen Menschen unter 3.Welt-Bedingungen leben und in den Städten extrem unter Rassendiskriminierung leiden müssen. Da war mein Ärger und Kampfgeist wieder und ich beschloss, diesmal endlich was zu tun.
Im Oktober letzten Jahres bin ich dann dank meines Kontaktes zu dem indianischen Schauspieler Nathaniel Arcand nach Kanada gereist und habe dort einige Zeit mit seiner Familie verbracht. Ich habe teils im „Alexander First Nation Reserve“ und teils in Edmonton gewohnt und sehr viele interessante Menschen kennen gelernt. Noch heute bin ich seiner Familie sehr dankbar für die Einladung und die Möglichkeit Einblicke in den Alltag der First Nation People gewinnen zu dürfen. Ich habe in dieser kurzen Zeit sehr viel gelernt und habe Kontakte zu anderen Schauspielern und Künstlern knüpfen können.
Diese Erfahrung bestärkte mich darin, meine Internetseite noch informativer zu machen und mein Wissen vermitteln zu wollen - vor Allem an junge Menschen hier in Europa. Die Vielfalt der Aktivitäten dieser Menschen und die Energie, die sie in die Unterstützung ihrer Jugend investieren, haben mich nachhaltig beeindruckt und so will ich auf diesen Seiten einige dieser Menschen und ihre Projekte vorstellen.
Like many others of my age, I loved Winnetou. Winnetou was a good Indian and I enjoyed watching the movies. I started reading informative books about the Native People of the USA and Canada and deepened my knowledge over the years. For me the Native Americans have just been FASCINATING.
My interest was sometimes more and sometimes less pronounced but whenever I had the opportunity to learn something new, I did. The last time I started to get into the topic was approximately 10 years ago, when the movie "Last of the Mohicans" was shown on TV with Eric Schweig as Uncas. I started reading a book about a young woman living on Pine Ridge Reservation in South Dakota which was based on a true story with lots of pictures of the reservation and the people that have to "live" there.
I never lost my passion for the Native People in North-America in all these years, but there no reason to deepen my knowledge again. Searching for a dreamcatcher was finally the reason why I got back into this topic. You can tell that I didn´t want to get one manufactured in Asia but an original one. And so I started my journey through the confusing depths of the Internet and took a ride through the prairie! There are a lot of good sites about Native Americans - unfortunately many in English and only a few in German. To keep a long story short: I bought my dreamcatcher in Germany and they assured me that it was made in South Dakota.
Talking to kids and teens I found out that they really do believe that there are no Native Americans living. And there it was again, the childlike logic: if all Indians get killed in the movies, how could one still be alive? I tried patiently to explain to them what really happens and what is going on with Native Americans ... but also adults don´t know anything about the living conditions of Native People in North-America. They have no idea that there are areas of 3rd world conditions in the middle of one of the richest and largest nations on earth and don´t know about Indians in towns suffering under racial discrimination.
Last year in October I had the chance to visit Native American actor Nathaniel Arcand and his family in Edmonton/Canada. I was staying on "Alexander First Nation Reserve" as well as in Edmonton City and met so many interesting people. I´m still very grateful for the invitation and this great opportunity to find out about the First Nation People. I was able to get in contact with a few more Native actors and artists and I really learned a lot.
This experience made me think about putting up lots more information on Native Americans and their great work to support their youth or to try to make a better world. I´m really impressed and therefore I want to introduce some of these people and their projects and ideas to you.
